OBDA READING WORKSHOP
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY
For the past 30+ years, the Reading Session has provided band directors from across Oregon and Washington an opportunity to learn about new literature and foster relationships within the band community. We are thankful to those who have worked diligently to keep this event as a premier professional development opportunity for band directors in our state, including Dave Becker, Phil Hodapp at Beacock Music, Sheet Music Service of Portland, and Lewis and Clark College.
The reboot of this impactful professional development opportunity will provide directors from all levels and geographic areas an opportunity to share new and proven literature with their band colleagues. To keep initial costs down, our first year as a OSU/OBDA event will be conducted by local collegiate educators and members of the OBDA Leadership.
Networking opportunities will include nightly no-host social events and the annual OBDA meeting, held at the conclusion of Thursdays session.
Because we recognize this reading session as a relevant and transformative professional development opportunity, we will be providing an option for participants to receive Oregon PDU’s, and Washington Clock Hours. We are still looking into avenues to provide graduate credits for this event.
Repertoire will be sourced from a variety of avenues and will feature works from the OBDA State List, new releases from J.W. Pepper along with music from underrepresented composers from across a variety of grade levels.
