This workshop is a mandatory requirement for OBDA Adjudicator Certification.

ADJUDICATION CERTIFICATION OR RENEWAL UPON SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION Participants wishing to be included on the OBDA Approved Adjudicators List and/ or approved orchestra adjudication list will have the opportunity to submit their critique sheets to the OBDA adjudication committee for consideration. Adjudicators with a minimum of five year experience teaching band or orchestra with demonstrated success at secondary or university level who submit satisfactory sheets will be placed on the lists. All adjudicators must be re-certified at least every 5 years to remain on the list.
PROVIDES USEFUL PRACTICE FOR THE EXPERIENCED OR NOVICE ADJUDICATOR The workshops will include practice adjudication and instruction on the OBDA Concert Band and Orchestra Evaluation System. The OBDA system was adopted for Oregon festivals and contests in 1983. It is used throughout Oregon and in modified form in several other states and Canadian provinces. Participants new to Oregon or anyone not familiar with the system may find an explanation of the system as well as all related materials above under OBDA Adjudication Rubric and Sheets.
PROVIDES HELP IN IMPROVING FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE FOR ALL DIRECTORS Past participants indicate that they received many insights into the process of adjudication and gained practical tips for preparing their bands for festival. Many have had no personal interest in becoming judges but simply want to improve their groups’ performance. Several participants will be active judges already on the OBDA List wishing to "fine tune" their judging skills. All directors regardless of teaching level or experience are welcome. First or second year teachers are particularly invited.
CERTIFICATION OF ORCHESTRA ADJUDICATORS Orchestra excerpts will also be included in the workshop as we continue working with our orchestral colleagues to build their certified adjudicator list.
